The Lost Aura – Part I
12pp art fair guide/novella, first distributed at the Sluice Art Fair, Published by PETREL
Lithographic print with metallic ink. Edition of 300. 130 x 198mm.
An alternative art fair guide/spectator-meta-fiction by artist Julie Hill that explores the ever-increasing confluence between art and entertainment. Part guide, part fiction, the text makes use of narrative strategies to insert the viewer within the liminal space between reality and fiction. Through abstracting and combining descriptions of art fairs and their exhibits with supernatural and otherworldly cinematic special effects, The Lost Aura
reflects on the phenomenon of the art fair whilst also invoking the notion of ‘aura’ as discussed by Walter Benjamin in his seminal essay Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction
